It's the really old couples who are still in love that creates the admiration in my eyes. How do they manage it? Ten years and they still dine with each other. Twenty years and they still smile with each other. Forty years and they still love each other. It wasn't until that one night at the bar under the Blue Lagoon that I had a glimpse of what true love looked like in the eyes of an old happy couple.
The mid-40s couple snuck each other a loving glance and a squeeze on the knee, love spilling from their lips, batting eyelashes and warm frictious touch. Under the Blue Lagoon sits that couple who's future might mirror the one of the table beside them. They are the seventy year old lovers who spent fifty of those years loving and being loved; not once ever giving up on something they can't live a day without. That takes me back to myself, wondering if I can ever be lucky enough to achieve that kind of fortune. Whether it is all or most, you can't force that L word no matter how close you are to it, no matter how much you want it. Have a mild taste of it once, and it will be the only thing you'll crave for the rest of your life.
